FAQs

Q: Do you mean "The Weird Soap Company"?
A: No. We mean "wyrd".

Q: What does "wyrd" mean?
A: It is an old Anglo-Saxon word that corresponds to the idea of "fate" or "destiny". It is represented in Norse mythology by the three Norn - goddesses that weave the fates of everyone in the universe.

Q: What's that symbol in your logo?
A: That is the runic symbol for "wyrd".

Q: Are your products completely vegan?
A: The only animal product that we use is beeswax in our lip balm, deodorants and beer-based soaps.

Q: Where do you get your bees wax?
A: Our bees wax is exclusively sourced from British bee keepers

Q: Why don't you use palm oil or other palm derived ingredients?
A: Orangutans. We love our hairy cousins and the palm industry threatens their existence. Learn more about the dangers facing orangutans from the palm industry here

Q: Why do you colour your soaps with botanicals?
A: For a few reasons. The first is that it is environmentally friendly. The botanicals that we use, such as sea buck-thorn and madder root, are grown here in the UK - which means that the carbon foot print of using them is minimal. In fact, the majority of the botanicals we use are grown in our own allotment.

Q: Why don't you use micas to colour your products?
A: We will not use micas to colour our products because of the ethical concerns around the harvesting or production of micas. To learn more about the ethical problems with the mica industry click here

Q: Where do the botanicals in your infusion soaps come from?
A: We try to grow all of them in our allotment but if nature intervenes and prevents us from being able to grow or harvest enough of a specific plant, we will purchase it from a UK based grower.

Q: Where do your oils come from?
A: Our carrier oils (hemp, soy and rape seed) are all grown and processed in the UK, with the exception of the ethically sourced coconut oil we use in small amounts in our beer soaps. All essential oils are grown and processed either in the UK or EU. This is done to limit the environmental impact of our company and our products.

Q: You use some fragrance oils instead of essential oils. Why?
A: We use a small number of UK produced fragrance oils because we feel that for those particular scents it is the more ethical choice. Using sandalwood essential oil, for example, has serious ethical questions surrounding it, which you can read about here. A lab made copy of that scent allows us to use the beautiful sandalwood fragrance without the ethical questions that come along with the essential oil.

Q: Do you ship your products?
A: Yes! You can find info on that in our online shop.

Q: I want to sell The Wyrd Soap Company's products in my shop. How can I do that?
A: Contact us at info@thewyrdsoapcompany.co.uk
